The Berkshire Environmental Educators Network (BEEN) was initiated by the Flying Cloud Institute in 2005 to connect area non profits and public school educators who are interested in engaging students in meaningful investigations of the local environment. Members are able to share best practices and set up collaborations that promote high quality environmental education across Berkshire County. The main activities of BEEN are - the Berkshire Environmental Educators Conference where teachers and non-profits have the opportunity to discuss their work, share best practices, and plan collaborations; and the Youth Environmental Summit where students present their findings to their peers and offer workshops that teach other students the techniques they have learned. Environmental consultants will liaison between non-profits and schools helping to bring new participants into the program and demonstrate how the Massachusetts Learning Standards in Math, Science and Technology can be taught through hands-on environmental projects.
